Kirk's Lost Thoughts - Ep 2.12

Before getting into whats happening in the show, a couple fun things for you all:

The guys and non-traditional ladies will enjoy this link. Evangeline Lilly (Kate) has taken some risque photos for Arena. No nudity, but definately not safe for work. Check them out at What would Tyler Durden Do. What is Arena? Who knows and who cares!

To be fair, Josh Holloway (Sawyer) has been named In Touch's hottest hunk for last week. Here are some cheesecake photos for the gals.

When is Lost taking place? Can they be on the Island in the future? I've assumed that they crashed in 2004, when the show aired. Take a peek at this screen cap from Episode 2.11 of the X-Ray, make sure you enlarge it and scope out the date. Nov 16(that number again), 2005!

While chatting on IM with Andy he didn't buy Libby's story to Hurley.
Did anyone else think it was fishy that she mentioned him stepping on her foot? She described it long enough, with enough details (him sweating, her foot going "Crunch") that males it seem like she's 'implanting' or giving Hurley a false memory so he wouldn't really remember her. In psychology class, that is exactly how you give someone a false memory, just add a lot of details/sounds.

We discussed possibilities of why Libby may look familiar to Hurley
1) She was a doctor in the same mental ward
2) She was a patient
3) This one is my fav, she's a gold digger that knows about Hurley winning the lotto. She's been following him trying to 'meet' him. It's a strech but it's a lot of fun.

andymac### (11:16:27 AM): wait a second
andymac### (11:16:32 AM): just thought of something
andymac### (11:16:52 AM): how could Hurley have stepped on Libby’s foot... she was in the tail section
######Kirk (11:17:20 AM): GOOD POINT...
######Kirk (11:17:33 AM): Unless she was moving back to the tail section
andymac### (11:17:39 AM): or
andymac### (11:17:44 AM): she’s a pathological liar
andymac### (11:17:46 AM): and a patient!
######Kirk (11:17:54 AM): and a drunk!
andymac### (11:18:26 AM): nice!

Lost-Media wasn't on the ball with this episode and the screen caps are hard to come by.

With the new Washer and Drier (no screen cap) down in the Bunker someone has been paying a visit for maintenance. Perhaps it's the same person stocking the pantry.

How low did Driveshaft fall? Recording diaper commercials... Wow. This screen cap shows them in the crib. Look again, what kind of stuffed animals are in there with them?

Add Charlie to the list of characters with Daddy Issues.

Sier has a cap on LiveJournal that only HD viewers got to see. While Charlie was seeing the vision of Claire & Mum baptising Aaron the drug plane is visible crashing in the backgroud before the dove appears.

During this flashback they showed something Pink Floyd fans may recognize. Here, look at the scene on livejournal. Imboogaloosmom finds another Pink Floyd reference in the show.
Locke’s lips were moving during the scene when he came out of the hatch, but no words came out…others verififed this….

Makes me think of “Comfortably Numb”
“Your lips are moving, but I cannot hear what you’re saying”
HINT? Charlie is using?

Meridith has some neat thoughts on Psychological tie-ins with Lost.
Here are some interesting connections to the characters on Lost and psychology --
There are three main theories of early childhood development:
1. Original sin -- we are all born sinners into an evil world and need salvation.
2. Tabula rasa -- we all come into the world a blank tablet and everything that happens to us is written on the tablet and forms us into the adults we become. This theory was introduced by an English philosopher named JOHN LOCKE in the 1800's.
3. Innate goodness -- this theory was introduced by a French guy named ROUSSEAU. It states that we are all born good, and don't need any influence from our parents. In fact, we're better off with no guidance or discipline from our parents. If left alone, the child will "grow naturally."
Compare all three of these theories to the characters on Lost. Everyone on lost seems to have a back story that relates to their childhood or relationship with their father.
There are three main groups on the island -- maybe there are connections?
1. Eko - found salvation through his brother (the priest) (Locke and Eko have emerged as the two spiritual leaders on the island).
2. Locke (John Locke) - had a horrible childhood -- did this make him who he is today?
3. Rousseau -- the crazy French lady. Is there a connection with the Others who take children away from their parents? References have been made to them being "good" and "better off" away from their parents.
Don't know what this all means, but everyone seems to fall into one of the three categories.
Hmmm ... food for thought!
Be sure to read jadjarhq's comments as well:
Your original sin point has been summed up by yet another philosopher named John Calvin. Calvinism fits very neatly within the story of Mr. Eko. In addition we can find a clue in that Marvin Candle is an anagram for Calvin and Mr E
These philosophies are not just about child rearing, they are social guidlines. A disagreement in the adoption of social guidlines frequently leads to conflict. We are seeing some of that among the survivors but I expect that will become much more pronounced as the different populations of the island make more contact with each other.

We all know this symbol pretty well, now check out the I Ching characters on the South Korean flag.
